La Torretta, a historic Piacenza estate, lies in the heart of the Tidone Valley — the westernmost corner of the province of Piacenza, on the border with the Oltrepò Pavese: a land with a strong winemaking vocation, its hills cloaked in vineyards, small villages, castles and mills.
You don't reach La Torretta by chance: from the Tidone valley floor, right in front of Pianello, instead of crossing the stream you turn right onto the road to Sala Mandelli. Climbing the gentle hill, skirting vineyards that look like gardens, you arrive at the heart of the estate, set in a position with an enviable panorama. From here, on the clearest mornings, you can count eight bell towers, each belonging to a village large or small.
La Torretta is documented as far back as the 1600s, and visible signs of that era remain in the ancient cluster of buildings; the surrounding land was already planted to vine in 1822, as shown by a survey map of the time. The renovation that gave the estate its present form took place in the late 1980s, and La Torretta soon became an ideal meeting place for all who love to pair the pleasure of wine with the discovery of places rich in history, tradition and culture.
In 2015 the estate took a further significant leap in quality: by merging with a neighbouring winery of equal size, it became one of the largest wine producers in the Tidone Valley. The Marchesi family, passionate architects of this merger, enriched the new Azienda La Torretta with a wider range of quality grape varieties of a more international character. Hospitality remains one of the estate's cornerstones: true to this principle it is always open to visitors and offers evocative settings to enjoy — alongside a tasting of its prestigious wines paired with the celebrated DOP Piacenza cured meats — an incomparable view over the Tidone Valley.
